Armin van Buuren is a Dutch DJ and producer. He has won a number of accolades, including DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs in 2013 and 2014, being declared the ‘World's No. 1 DJ’ from 2013 to 2016 by DJ Mag, and being ranked at number one on DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs 2018.
He has released six studio albums so far: 76 (1999), Shivers (2001), Imagine (2002), Mirage (2005), Intense (2013) and Embrace (2015). His most recent album, Embrace, was released on 14 September 2015.
Armin van Buuren was born in Leiden, The Netherlands on December 25th, 1976. He was raised in Koudekerk aan den Rijn. His father was a classical pianist and his mother was an art teacher. His childhood home was filled with music; his mother was a professional singer while his father played the organ at church. Van Buuren has one brother and two younger sisters. Armin learned to play drums at the age of 4, piano at the age of 6 and guitar at the age of 12. He learned to play classical piano for 13 years before moving on to jazz percussion when he was 16 years old. He studied at the Herman Brood Academy in Utrecht, where he began DJing at age 14, then started producing music with a friend from school who also had a studio at their parents' house.
From the of age of 15 Armin started to produce his own music with various computer programs such as Cubase, He released his first single ‘Blue Fear’ in 1995.
In 2017, Armin van Buuren announced that he will be retiring from performing live after his upcoming performance at Ultra Miami 2018 in March 2018.
